Fabrication of Custom-made Plantar Orthoses

Plantar orthoses are custom-made using casts. Several techniques exist to record footprints: casts, foams, waxes, and even digital casting. The position of the feet can also vary: without charge, with partial charge, with full charge, neutral position, and modified position.

The selected molding technique and position of the feet for recording footprints are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, based on several factors, such as the patient’s symptoms, health, biomechanical test results, diagnosis, activities, and shoes for which the use of plantar orthoses is recommended.
